The mourning gecko (Lepidodactylus lugubris) is a small, arboreal species of gecko that reaches only 8-10cm in length. They make a very interesting display species due to their social and active nature.

Due to their fast speed and small size, these geckos are not suitable for handling. This species is largely all female and reproduces via parthenogenesis.

Diet: Diet consists of small insects and fruit paste (Arcadia gecko food, Repashy gecko food, etc.)

Habitat: A vivarium sized 30 x 30 x 45 is suitable for a pair of geckos. This species also does well in a paludarium set up.

Lighting: As they are cathemeral (active at sporadic times over a 24-hour period) rather than nocturnal, a low percentage UVB such as the Arcadia Shadedweller 2.4% or 7% is recommended, and can be sat on the mesh atop the enclosure.

Heating: A heat mat and/or basking bulb controlled with a thermostat is also recommended to ensure adequate ambient and basking temperatures.

Background Temp: 21⁰C-25⁰C (69-77⁰F)
Hot Spot: 26⁰C -29⁰C (80-85⁰F)
Night-Time Temp: 18⁰C-22⁰C (65-72⁰F)

Humidity: Peaks of humidity at 60-80% should be aimed for. This can generally be achieved with misting 1-2 times a day or with a misting system.
